Year 3

Week 10

This week we have been writing directions to the Giant’s castle for the guests using  sequencing starters, adverbs, connectives and prepositions of place using this map.

 

In maths we have been learning about the properties of 2D shapes.

Week 9

This week in English we have been very ‘Bossy’, we have been writing instructions about how to use the school’s fitness trail.

In geography we have been learning all about tectonic plates and the causes and effects of earthquakes. Here is a great printable resource to make and show the effects of an earthquake.

Week 8

We all came back to school safe and sound after a wonderful half term holiday.

In English we have started our new ‘Big Writing Adventure’, this half term we are helping a couple of giant’s with their dad’s birthday party! We started by learning about party invitations.

In the afternoons we have been learning how people use the bible and how the bible is a compilation of different books.

 

Week 6 and Week 7

We have been finding out all about the Stone age. We created timelines of the three main periods of the stone age and found out lots about the stone age people. http://www.dkfindout.com/uk/history/stone-age/

Week 5

Another busy week in Year 3. This week we have been learning our number facts in maths. The children have been using maths games to help them, you can access espresso from home. Check with your child’s class teacher for the access codes.

We have been learning how to use joining words such as and, but, so and because accurately. There are also some great games in espresso to help the children.

In the afternoons we have been learning how to create animations using software called scratch. It was developed by the MIT university in the USA specifically for child to learn how to code - program. It is free and great fun. There are also tutorial that the children can follow. Week 4

This week we have been learning how to use our number bonds and addition facts to help us add two numbers together mentally. We have also made our own fossils using clay, shells and plaster of Paris. Then we got to become palaeontologists and excavate a fossil!

 


Week 3

We had a really exciting week this week. We have become Writing Agents. Our task this week was to write a non-chronological report about how rocks are formed. We learnt how they were formed in Science. We made the different rocks using jelly beans! Mr Knowles forgot about our sedimentary rocks in the oven, so they got supper heated and turned straight into igneous rocks rather than metamorphic rock!



Week 2

This week we have been learning about what makes a Christian a Christian. We have learnt about god, Jesus and the bible.


Week 1

This week we met our new grownups and got used to our new classrooms. In the afternoons we drew a butterfly. Then we discussed how we could improve it with our partner before drawing it again. We did this six times before we drew our final picture. It was more accurate than the first one.
