Welcome to Year 2
We hope that you all had super summer holiday and ready for the term ahead.
All the children have made a brilliant start to their time in Year 2 and have already started to some great work in all areas of their learning.
We started the year by having an art week. During the week, we completed activities linked to Van Gogh’s Starry night painting.
First, we looked at all the different parts of the painting and listed all the different things we could see. We could see stars, houses, a church, a river. There were lots of suggestions for the dark building, we thought it could be a tower, castle, a big church or a cathedral.
After that, we completed different activities. We mixed different paints together to create different shades and tones. Then, we used felts, pastels and paints to complete ‘half pictures’. We discussed which one we liked the best for our painting.
Finally, we used our new skills to paint our final picture. We were very impressed with our final picture and we could see how much we improved over the week.
We have been busy learning about materials and how to describe them using scientific vocabulary. We used this new learning to sort the materials into different groups.
We have been busy learning all about place value and representing numbers in different ways. We used number cards, arrow cards and Dienes. We have had a lot of fun. We then used this learning to order and compare numbers.
